Cockroach Labs Appoints Sam Jones as Chief Revenue Officer

Former Adaptive ML CRO and founding Postman enterprise sales leader brings experience turning developer adoption into enterprise revenue

NEW YORK, Oct. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cockroach Labs, the company behind CockroachDB and Cockroach Continuum the Agentic Database Cloud, today announced the appointment of Sam Jones as its Chief Revenue Officer. Jones will run the company's global revenue organization, leading sales strategy, execution and customer growth. He arrives as the question enterprises bring to Cockroach Labs is changing. They no longer ask whether AI agents will reach their databases. They ask how many databases they'll be running when the agents do.

Jones has spent his career turning developer adoption into enterprise revenue. As a founding go-to-market leader at Postman, he built the company's global enterprise sales organization from scratch while Postman spread across the Global 500. He went on to hold leadership roles at SmartBear and Drift. Most recently he was Chief Revenue Officer of Adaptive ML, through its acquisition by Datadog.

"Sam has an exceptional track record of turning developer adoption into durable enterprise growth," said Spencer Kimball, Co-founder and CEO of Cockroach Labs. "As AI reshapes how applications are built and operated, enterprises need a database infrastructure partner they can trust to support their most critical workloads. Sam brings the commercial leadership, technical understanding, and customer-first mindset to help us capture that opportunity and scale our impact globally."

Jones joins six weeks after Cockroach Labs launched Cockroach Continuum, built on CockroachDB. Continuum lets a company run a fleet of databases as one estate. Virtual clusters are created as workloads need them, and consumption pricing means the platform gets cheaper as it scales. Cockroach Aegis, now in preview, takes routine operational work off engineers' plates.

"Cockroach Labs has built an extraordinary foundation: the systems it runs today are the ones companies can't afford to have go down," said Sam Jones, Chief Revenue Officer at Cockroach Labs. "This team has consistently pushed the boundaries of what's possible in databases, and Continuum takes that foundation into the agent era, with economics that improve as customers grow. The opportunity ahead is significant. I look forward to working with our customers and partners to build the next chapter of growth, and to making sure they're glad they chose us."

Founded in 2015 to make correctness and uptime a single guarantee rather than a choice, Cockroach Labs is building a utility-grade database estate where capacity is shared across the fleet, work is priced instead of peak capacity, and agents and humans operate together—humans set policy, and the estate handles the toil.
