Compute Scarcity Is Making Idle Infrastructure Too Expensive to Keep
Most enterprise database estates are built from systems provisioned independently for peaks that arrive only occasionally. The rest of that capacity is paid for and unused.
That waste was tolerable when compute was cheap and in ample supply. That assumption no longer holds. GitHub planned for a 10x increase in compute last October then needed 30x by February as AI-assisted development accelerated.
