CollegeChoice.net Identifies the 50 Best Colleges and Universities for Summer School in the United States
Tuition savings, smaller class size and increased class frequency are contributing factors for summer school students
RALEIGH, N.C., May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Higher education website CollegeChoice.net has published a ranking of the 50 Best Colleges for Summer School in the United States (http://www.collegechoice.net/posts/50-best-colleges-for-summer-school/). Two University of California schools are among the top three, with UC-San Diego taking the top spot and UC-Santa Barbara placing third. The University of Colorado-Boulder was slotted second. Schools were selected based on their academic reputation and proximity to beautiful and interesting places for fun summer activities.
"A growing number of college students are choosing to take courses over the summer, often out of a desire to save on tuition, as summer courses are often less expensive and students are able to graduate faster. The scarcity of summer jobs also makes staying in school an attractive option," said J. Alder, Managing Editor of CollegeChoice.net. "The idea behind this list is that if you're planning to be in school during the summer, why not go to a place you'd want to be anyway?"
In addition to financial reasons, reports indicate that many students prefer summer school courses because of the smaller classes and the increased frequency of classes, which often meet every day and facilitate the learning of memory-intensive subjects like foreign languages. Many schools also report a spike in enrollment for online classes during the summer.
