CollegeHumor.com Launches "Average Student Scholarship Contest"

NEW YORK, Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Comedy website CollegeHumor.com has announced a new contest that gives average college students the chance to enter to win $5,000 toward their tuition. Having observed that there are plenty of scholarships available for academically excellent students, but not many for the majority of students who fall somewhere in the middle, CollegeHumor.com has created their first-ever Average Student Scholarship Contest, which seeks to find the two most ordinary college students in the country and award each of them with a $5,000 prize just for being themselves.

"Some of the funniest, longest-serving writers at CollegeHumor - myself included - were unexceptional students. We did our work and got decent grades, but we never really stood out in either direction academically," says Streeter Seidell, Editor-in-Chief of CollegeHumor.com. "And now, in these difficult economic times, it's getting harder and harder for average students like we were to get free money for no reason at all. We wanted to help out a few fellow 'normals' and thought a prize of $5,000 would be a great way to do that."

Through February 1, 2013, students currently enrolled as a freshman, sophomore or junior at a four-year college or university are invited to enter the Average Student Scholarship Contest by submitting an essay no longer than 1,000 words explaining why they deserve to be declared the most average student. Students may also submit a supplemental photo or video that further exhibits their case. The editorial staff of CollegeHumor.com will select two Grand Prize winners based on a combination of academic averageness, humor and originality. The one female entrant and one male entrant lucky enough to be judged just average enough will each win $5,000 to apply toward their college tuition.
