While there are a number of fee-based recruiting services seeking to connect high school athletes with college coaches, there is a clear lack of independent reporting on college teams and coaches focusing on issues like off-season requirements, academic support resources, and quality of life topics. Each of these issues will vary from institution to institution and from coach to coach, and will have a significant impact on the student-athlete's college experience.

The vast majority of college athletes today are competing at the DIII, DII and smaller DI schools, and they are participating in so-called non-revenue sports (e.g. lacrosse, swimming, soccer, etc.).
