Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation Announces Date for 10th Anniversary Colon Cancer Challenge
2013 Colon Cancer Challenge to Be Held April 7, 2013, in Central Park
RYE, N.Y., Jan. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation (CCCF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing colorectal cancer incidence and death throughout the United States, today announced that its 2013 Colon Cancer Challenge in Central Park, New York City, will be held Sunday, April 7, 2013.
The Colon Cancer Challenge® is the tri-state's premier colorectal cancer fundraising event designed to raise awareness and support for colorectal cancer research and prevention.
"The Challenge not only helps spread the word about colorectal cancer, but it also helps raise funds for life-saving prevention and research programs to help eradicate colorectal cancer," said Dr. Thomas K. Weber, M.D., FACS, founder of the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation, professor of surgery at the State University of New York at Downstate and chief of surgery at the Department of Veterans Affairs New York Harbor Healthcare System, Brooklyn Campus.
Participants can choose between three different walks or runs, including a 1.7-mile remembrance and prevention walk, 15K (9 miles) race or a shorter four-mile run. They can register for the Challenge at events.coloncancerchallenge.org.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the Colon Cancer Challenge. The event generated support from more than 10,000 participants and attendees last year. It provides an opportunity for those affected by colorectal cancer to recognize and remember loved ones and survivors.
The event is hosted by the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation, which was started as an outgrowth of the original Challenge event by Weber. The foundation supports individuals and organizations that are leading innovative research programs for the prevention and cure of colorectal cancer. It also works to raise and disburse funds for programs that provide screening services to uninsured clients and assist them in obtaining services and support.
