Verity® Voting by Hart InterCivic Considered for Statewide Adoption
DENVER, Nov. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Colorado voters in selected counties took new voting technology for a test drive for the November 3 Coordinated Election, bringing the state one step closer to selecting modern voting technology to replace a patchwork of aging machines.
As the newest system to pass a rigorous federal certification process, Verity® Voting by Hart InterCivic is the most up-to-date option tested during the live elections and under consideration for statewide certification.
"Verity's digital scanning technology is the most advanced in the nation, and it is built on over a decade of experience," said Phillip Braithwaite, President and CEO of Hart InterCivic.
"Hart pioneered true digital ballot scanning in the early 2000's, and Verity takes that experience to the next level for Colorado counties, who can benefit now more than ever, as Colorado conducts primarily by-mail elections."
The new Verity system was tested in Douglas and Garfield counties, two of the 45 Colorado jurisdictions where Hart is already a long-time partner.
A decision from Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams' office is expected early in 2016 regarding which voting system or systems are approved for counties to purchase. Counties will be free to replace aging systems on their own timelines, but at their own expense. Hart will help counties with this challenge, as the Verity solution is expected to be more economical than the systems it is designed to replace. This new system from Hart requires almost no maintenance and includes cost-effective commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware where it can best be applied. (See Doing COTS Right at http://tinyurl.com/qhg8mze.) The system easily scales to suit the unique needs of the 64 Colorado counties.
"Verity is good for voters, the counties and the state," Hart CEO Braithwaite emphasized. "We look forward to helping Colorado update their voting process with the best option available in the U.S."
