Communities In Schools of Nevada to Host Community Summit

WHAT	Crime, truancy, delinquency. This is what one North Las Vegas neighborhood faced on a daily basis. Deciding to turn things around, they took control of their circumstances and turned adversity into triumph. Through a collaborative effort between the neighborhood, juvenile justice and community organizations, Jim Bridger Middle School went from a "needs improvement" school to being named one of the top five magnet schools in the United States and leading the way in academic success. Communities In Schools will be holding a community summit to learn how key partnerships and community involvement empower kids to stay in school, graduate, and reach their true potential in life...and how such programs can be duplicated throughout the state of Nevada.

WHY	The education system in our country is failing our children and the state of Nevada is leading the dropout crisis with the lowest graduation rate of 41.8%. It has never been more important to bring the community together to talk about the barriers that our students face and discuss possible solutions and outcomes in order to build a better future for our children and our community.
