Companion Life Extends Dental, Vision Coverage to More Young Adults on Parents' Policies

COLUMBIA, S.C., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ --  Companion Life Insurance Co. announced today that it will allow young adults up to age 26, regardless of marital status or whether the young adult attends school, to remain covered under a parent's group dental or vision plan.

The change is effective immediately on all Companion Life dental and vision policies nationwide. Previously, coverage was extended to young adults on a parent's policy only up until age 19, unless the young adult was a full-time student.

The change coincides with a requirement in the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that requires health insurance plans to cover adults up to age 26 via a parent's policy. The federal law does not require dental and vision plans to extend coverage up to age 26, but Companion Life elected to match the dependent-age requirement in health plans to provide added value for policyholders.

"Many young adults who have moved away from home or recently graduated from college do not have access to affordable dental and vision benefits," said J.C.
