DENVER, March 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- "From inception, Micromagnets were largely an experiment. They were designed to be the largest magnet spheres within the CPSC's red tape rules, while still having the strength-to weight ratio that allows for useful construction," said Zen Magnets LLC in a recent email newsletter. Unlike Zen Magnets, Buckyballs, or Neoballs, which are 5mm magnet spheres, the 2.5mm "Compliance Magnets" are weaker than the hazardous magnet strength limit. In recent customer surveys, the Micromagnets are not a substitute for normal sized Zen Magnets, although customers generally have found them satisfactory.

Surveys were sent to 500 of the earliest Micromagnet customers, and nearly two hundred responded within a week. Given five options ranging from "Extremely Satisfied" to "Extremely Unsatisfied," one third of responses were "Extremely satisfied." The average rating was 4/5, which was higher than originally expected by Zen Magnets. Predictably, the biggest complaint was that they are "just too small" though many found the smaller magnets more "comfortable on [fingers]" and more "portable," even "freaking adorable" to some. The Compliance Micromagnets are available for sale at http://compliancemagnets.com, and the raw poll results can be found at http://bit.ly/1T7Nb3o.
Despite the consensus that Micromagnets are an enjoyable product, about four of every five respondents preferred Zen Magnets to Micromagnets. The comments frequently contained requests that Zen Magnets LLC win the battle to "legalize" Zen Magnets in the US. "Can't wait to get Zens back," "Wishing the ban was over," "[Micromagnets] are entirely too small..."
Zen Magnets LLC and founder Shihan Qu have for years been fighting the CPSC's magnet ban to seek a compromise, though with meager sales limited to the much less popular Micromagnets, the chances are low for getting the all-ages nationwide import ban repealed.
