Concurrent Technologies Corporation Awarded Two Contracts Totaling $3.5 Million to Support the Engineer Research Development Center - Construction Engineering Research Laboratory

JOHNSTOWN, Pa., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) has been awarded two competitively-bid contracts by the Engineer Research Development Center – Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC-CERL) totaling $3.5 million.  The contracts will be used to help improve energy security and islanding methodologies at U.S. Army installations.

The first contract, worth $2 million, focuses on enhancing the energy security assessment processes for U.S. Army installations.  CTC will develop an energy security self-audit methodology and model that will be implemented at Army installations to help improve their energy security posture.  By developing a standardized approach for military installations to perform energy security assessments, this project will provide a consistent methodology to assist installations in identifying critical facilities, activities, components, functions, and electrical demands and infrastructure needs for those critical facilities, and identify potential energy security vulnerabilities.  

"The overall goal of the effort is to standardize a methodology that will assist the Army and its installations in prioritizing their energy security needs and develop actionable plans to reduce risk," said Ms. Susan Van Scoyoc, CTC's Project Manager.  "By developing an action plan to improve their energy security posture, installations can be prepared to sustain an adequate energy supply to maintain continuity of operations in a time of crisis."

The second contract, worth $1.5 million, will provide methodologies to "island" U.S. Army installations from the commercial electric grid.  CTC will develop an islanding architecture definition and control scheme strategy.  Three U.S. Army installations will be examined to determine their critical energy supply and infrastructure needs.  The islanding strategy will recommend a method to manage the system based on inputs resulting from any change in supply priority or mission of the sites evaluated.  "The 'islanding' concept includes developing a strategy for an installation to be self-sufficient from the U.S. Electric Grid during an extended power outage allowing installations to maintain continuity of operations for their critical missions for a lengthy period of time," said Ms. Van Scoyoc.  "The strategy will include using available on-site infrastructure and equipment with the potential to incorporate smart grid technologies and controls."
