SAN JOSE, Calif., April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Conklin Bros., a Bay Area flooring store that is known for its outstanding selection and prices, is proud to be celebrating its 135th birthday.
The Conklin Bros. brand first got its start in 1880, when brothers Frank and Joe Conklin opened The Pacific Steam Carpet Cleaning and Renovating Works on Golden Gate Ave. in San Francisco. Since cars were not on the road at that time, carpet was picked up and delivered to their customers by a mule-driven wagon, and carpet cleaning and renovation was done at the company's plant.
When Frank and Joe retired, Joseph Emmons and his son Jack took over the business, keeping the Conklin family name. The Emmons added retail floor covering to Conklin Bros.' list of services, and then sold the company to Richard Oderio in 1963. Oderio moved the company to San Jose and passed the company to his son Rick when he retired in 1989.
Conklin Bros. now has three showrooms in the Bay Area: in San Jose, Fremont and San Mateo. Rick and his friendly and experienced team are proud to carry on the Conklin Bros. tradition of being a local source for top-quality floor coverings, including expert installation and repair.
