Joining Goel on the panel will be Greg Franklin, Assistant Secretary of Health Information Technology at the California Technology Agency, and Jay Himmelstein, Professor, University of Massachusetts School of Medicine, and Director of the New England States Collaborative for Insurance Exchange Systems.
"Healthcare reform requires states to take an active and expanding role in the exchange of healthcare information and the use of health information technology," said Goel. "With the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) pushing states toward a January 2014 deadline for implementing healthcare exchanges, it is critical that state leaders have the vital information they need to comply with the PPACA exchange provisions." Goel continues, "Our company is in the middle of designing and building a health insurance exchange, and we are focused on achieving a sustainable design and successful implementation of a State HIX. I look forward to sharing our experiences and lessons learned at the State Healthcare IT Summit".
Goel has led healthcare IT organizations for more than 20 years, and has successfully built several healthcare IT organizations with a focus on complex transaction systems, very large database systems, and consumer engagement solutions. In 2011, Goel was appointed to the Health Information Technology Advisory Council (HITAC) for the State of North Dakota.
Produced in partnership with the National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO), the 2012 State Healthcare IT Connect Summit will examine the role of state health IT modernization and transformation at the intersection of HITECH and state health reform.
More than 250 attendees will participate in the summit, including CIOs, CMOs, State HIT Coordinators, Medical Directors, and healthcare business and technology leaders, where they will examine innovative strategies and best practices for managing and implementing information technology in post-reform healthcare.
