Consumers Who Bought Sylvania Automotive Lighting Could Get Money from a $30 Million Settlement

NEWARK, N.J., Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is being released by Kinsella Media on behalf of the Chaudhri v. Osram Sylvania, Inc. Settlement Fund by order of the United States District Court of New Jersey.

A $30 million Settlement has been reached with Osram Sylvania, Inc. ("Sylvania"). The lawsuit claims that Sylvania made misrepresentations regarding the performance of certain premium automotive lighting, including claims regarding brightness, road visibility, and life of the bulbs. Sylvania denies these claims and denies that it did anything wrong. The settlement resolves these claims.

Consumers are expected to get a minimum $10 payment and perhaps more from the settlement. All claims are limited to a single purchase only.

Consumers are eligible for a payment if they live in the United States (or any territory or possession) and bought one or more of the following (not for resale or distribution to another person or entity) from September 22, 2005 to July 11, 2014:

SilverStar ULTRA^®, SilverStar^®, XtraVision^®, or Cool Blue^® replacement headlight capsules;
SilverStar^®, XtraVision^®, or Cool Blue^® sealed beam headlights; and
SilverStar^® fog or auxiliary lights.

The settlement will also be used to pay Court-approved attorneys' fees and expenses, costs of notice and settlement administration, and incentive awards to the Class Representatives.

Important Information and Dates:

Consumers who did not already receive a postcard in the mail must file a claim, online or by mail, by November 14, 2014 to get money from the settlement.
Consumers who want to keep the right to sue Sylvania must exclude themselves from the settlement by November 14, 2014.
Consumers who stay in the settlement can object to it by February 9, 2015.
Consumers who do nothing are included in the settlement, but will not receive a payment unless they submit a claim.
The Court will hold a hearing on March 20, 2015 to consider whether to approve the settlement and award attorneys' fees, costs, and expenses up to one-third of the settlement, and total incentive awards up to $25,000 to the Class Representatives.
Consumers may hire a lawyer to appear and speak at the hearing at their own expense.
