Contects Celebrates LEED Milestone: 800 Green Buildings
SAN ANTONIO, March 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Contects-Consultants & Architects recently achieved the distinction of advising and certifying 800 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) construction projects across the country, with special emphasis on cost effective, high-performance buildings. In addition to their LEED documented projects, the firm has certified over 1,600 Energy Star homes.
The company, based in San Antonio, TX with offices in New Orleans, LA, assists project teams to design, implement, field verify, and market high-performance buildings. The firm's principal, Chip Henderson, AIA, is an architect and member of the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) pool of 60 national LEED faculty. Contects also provides third-party certification for LEED and Energy Star projects.
In a new approach for LEED, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) has selected Contects to be one of 36 local and regional "LEED for Homes Providers", to support the construction and certification of LEED residential projects. These providers have experience and expertise in their region's market, and provide locally-based technical, marketing, and verification support services to Project teams in the construction of high performance and sustainable multi-family projects and homes. Only these selected providers are eligible to work with project teams in the delivery of LEED for Homes. The strength of the LEED for Homes program are these regional providers who provide program support, including third-party on-site verification, inspections and performance testing.
"Green construction means different things to different people, but several key components are the norm: green buildings use less energy and water, provide a healthier indoor environment and are durable and long-lasting," states Chip Henderson, a founding partner of Contects. He continues, "One of the most compelling reasons to build green is because of a green building's long life cycle and overall endurance."
