Controversial Ministry Group Resurfaces Putting Jesus on Death Row; Ads Censored By Certain Outlets
LUBBOCK, Texas, Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Little Pencil Ministries, launched its latest campaign "Death Row Jesus," depicting Jesus Christ as a death row inmate and calling him the worst criminal in the history of the world.
This new campaign is the latest project under Little Pencil's mission to take their message of faith and forgiveness to audiences around the world. In America at least, a digital ad image advertising the campaign has been censored, deemed as too provocative.
"I find it unbelievable that here in America, the land of freedom, a historically-accurate depiction of the level of brutality Jesus Christ endured would be deemed as restricted content," said Little Pencil founder David L. Miller. "That act of restricting our speech places a message of faith in the same category as alcohol, gambling, and pornography," said Miller.
The purpose behind this latest campaign is to illustrate that Jesus became a criminal when he took the sins of the world upon himself and also to dispel the idea that there are levels of sin – that somehow one person's mistakes are not as bad as another's.
"Preachers, prostitutes, popes and pedophiles are all equally undeserving of Christ's love," said Miller, "but we all receive his forgiveness on the same terms."
Little Pencil is the group behind the 2013 viral campaign "Jesus Tattoo" which depicted Jesus as an ink-covered tattoo artist. This first offering from the controversial group started a national media frenzy, yielding video views in over 170 countries around the world.
"Our mission is to utilize modern-day parables to illustrate the greatest love story in the history of the world and to do so using contemporary marketing strategies to impact those who may never be reached by more traditional methods," Miller said.
With a history of controversy that includes a lawsuit pertaining to religious freedom of speech, currently under appeal, the organizers are not likely to shy away from speaking the often controversial truths taught by Jesus.
"If you can't find yourself somewhere in the video, you should probably watch it again," Miller said.
