CooTek Announces Victory against Nuance in ITC's Summary Determination
SHANGHAI, Oct. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CooTek, an innovative and award-winning developer of TouchPal Keyboard, today announced that ITC (U.S. International Trade Commission) Judge Lord issued a summary determination that TouchPal Keyboard V5.5 and V5.6 series did not infringe the claims at issue in Nuance's three patents (US Patent Nos. 7,750,891, 7,098,896, and 7,453,439).
"We are happy to report this good news to our clients and partners," said Michael Wong, CEO of CooTek, "It shows that CooTek's innovations are novel and inventive, and not the result of anyone else's contributions. This summary determination reinforces our presence in the U.S. market. We are glad that CooTek and its customers can continue their business and cooperation with our latest and most advanced technology and need not worry about baseless patent harassment."
All three patents came from companies Nuance acquired, Swype and ShapeWriter.
"ITC investigations are expensive, and are a nightmare for a startup like us," said Susan Li, CMO, CooTek, "Even winning the case drains a company like ours. We are happy we could survive the huge cost. With this summary determination, spending any more money to continue the litigation with Nuance became entirely unnecessary."
"CooTek has been an innovator in improving text input on mobile phones, and that's the reason why it won the Mobile Innovation Global Award in 2009," said Michael Wong, CEO, CooTek. "We have invested significantly in our intellectual property portfolio. CooTek values and respects intellectual property and will continue to develop the most innovative products in the industry."
