LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- ( -- Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas - ALK Technologies today announced that its award-winning CoPilot Live v8 GPS navigation app for smartphones has been downloaded by more than 200,000 customers globally since its launch less than six months ago.

CoPilot Live v8, which is receiving positive response from its first appearance at CES, was introduced on the Android Market last June. It is now one of the best selling turn-by-turn navigation apps for iPhone, the top grossing of all iPhone apps in the UK, and the number one paid app on the Android Market. CoPilot Live v8, from $34.99, has also proven popular for Windows Phone customers who can download it directly from ALK's own online store.

The CoPilot Live v8 GPS navigation app is compatible with the newly released Google Nexus One smartphone and is available for download from the Android Market for $34.99.

The company also introduced CoPilot Live Directions, a free turn-by-turn GPS navigation app for the U.S. and Canada. It enables North American iPhone users to access a free 30-day trial of full-featured and voice-guided GPS navigation with 3D mapping. After 30 days, users can opt to continue using voice-guided GPS navigation with a 12-month or 30-day subscription via in-app purchase ($19.99 and $2.99 respectively), or continue to enjoy free lifetime use of map-only turn-by-turn directions.

"CoPilot Live has already proven to be a must-have app for Android smartphone customers," said Michael Kornhauser, Managing Director at ALK Technologies. "We are delighted to bring our full-featured navigation experience to Google Nexus One."

CoPilot Live provides turn-by-turn GPS navigation, with detailed street maps stored on a memory card in the phone, not downloaded each trip, so drivers don't rely on their mobile network for navigation. CoPilot Live v8 also provides real-time services that make journeys easier, such as Live Traffic information, Live gas prices and Local Search. LiveLink, a free location-sharing service, easily allows friends, family or colleagues to view your location in real-time -- now via Facebook, or on an internet map or within CoPilot Live on their own device.

"CoPilot Live's popularity demonstrates the appetite among GPS-enabled smartphone owners for premium voice-guided navigation software," Kornhauser said. "We have developed some great innovations in navigation which we will bring to smartphone owners in 2010. The rapid consumer adoption of CoPilot Live certainly suggests that the smartphone is increasingly offering a credible alternative to dedicated devices."

CoPilot Live GPS Navigation is available on iPhone App Store, Android Market and for Windows Phones via the CoPilot Live online store at Follow CoPilot Live on Twitter, CoPilot Live blog, Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr.
