Thousands of premium quality images from the National Geographic Society and its publications are now represented by Corbis
SEATTLE, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Corbis (www.corbisimages.com), a leading visual media provider for the creative community, today announced it has partnered with the National Geographic Society to offer premium quality images taken by the Society's award-winning photographers. The new collection on CorbisImages.com includes photography from select shoots for the flagship National Geographic magazine, as well as from National Geographic Traveler and the Society's extensive archive. Thousands of images are already available, and Corbis plans to have 20,000 images online from National Geographic by the end of 2010.
National Geographic magazine was first published in 1888 and has since amassed a vast collection of stunning imagery, which encompasses geography, archaeology, and natural science. Corbis will offer exclusive global access to archival material dating back to 1900 from this collection.
Corbis will also represent imagery from National Geographic Traveler, one of the world's most widely read travel magazines, which showcases places, experiences, culture and photography from around the world.
"We decided to collaborate with Corbis because of the company's strong reputation and its global presence, and we are excited to be expanding access to our archive," said Maura Mulvihill, VP, Image Collection at The National Geographic Society. "Through this relationship, we will make it much easier to access our archival imagery dating back to 1900."
"Corbis is pleased to bring premium imagery from the world-famous National Geographic Society to our clients," said Edie Tobias, VP of Media Products at Corbis. "With the addition of images from the National Geographic Society, Corbis has further strengthened its reputation for handling world-class collections from the likes of the Smithsonian Institute, the National Gallery-London and the State Hermitage Museum – making Corbis one of the best places for advertisers and publishers to find quality imagery to suit their needs."
