Coro New York Leadership Center Receives Donation from Committee for Goodman
NEW YORK, Dec. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Coro New York Leadership Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides civic leadership training, has received a gift of $250,000 from the Committee for Goodman, a fund consisting of monies contributed in connection with the election campaigns of Senator Roy M. Goodman, who died on June 3, 2014. Coro will use the funds to establish the Senator Roy M. Goodman Fund, which will support Coro's renowned Fellows Program in Public Affairs, a full-time program that prepares young professionals for effective, bipartisan and ethical leadership in the public arena.
Peter Neger, chairman of Coro's board of directors, said: "Senator Goodman served the people of the City and State of New York with distinction for more than three decades. He encouraged scores of talented and passionate young people to serve the public in a collaborative way. This generous gift will assist generations of Coro Fellows to develop the tools and skills necessary to build on Senator Goodman's extraordinary legacy." Arthur Schwartzman, Treasurer, Committee for Goodman, said: "This gift to the Coro New York Leadership Center reflects the life's work of Senator Goodman, the high standard he set as a public official, and his encouragement of the best and brightest to serve in government."
Now in its thirtieth year, the Coro New York Leadership Center is New York's premier leadership training program and a community of more than two thousand alumni across business, government, schools and non-profit organizations that is shaping New York's future. Coro runs eight programs: the Fellows Program in Public Affairs, Leadership New York, the Immigrant Civic Leadership Program, Exploring Leadership, the Mayor's Youth Leadership Council, Neighborhood Leadership, the Education Leadership Collaborative and the Youth Leadership Academy.
The Coro New York Leadership Center selects twelve Fellows annually from a highly competitive pool of applicants. Using the City as a classroom, Coro Fellows learn through interactions with private, public and nonprofit decision-makers and work as a group to develop critical thinking, analytical, governance and leadership skills. The Fellows Program is rigorous and demanding; it is founded on Coro's unique curriculum of core leadership skills-building, paired with real-world experiential learning.
