Cox Continues Its Tradition Of Caring For The Community

CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications of Virginia continues its long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities we serve and last year contributed $8.7 million in cash and in-kind donations to more than 100 non-profits across Virginia. Focusing contributions on programs supporting youth, education and technology, Cox is committed to supporting partners in our communities that enhance life and learning for young people.

Cox Charities, a program that provides grants to non-profit organizations, provided $140,000 in grants to 15 local non-profit organizations throughout Virginia. Winners of the 2012 grants include the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, Smart Beginnings Greater Roanoke, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula. Furthermore, the Cox Charities Employee Grant Program awarded $22,000 in total funds to 11 non-profit organizations nominated by Cox employees.

Cox Virginia also partnered with C-SPAN to bring the C-SPAN Digital Bus to six colleges and universities during the 2012 Presidential Campaign period. The tour highlighted the ways C-SPAN informs students of legislative news while educating them on how the media affects politics in America.

Understanding the joy that gifts bring to children during the holidays, Cox also held a "Days of Giving" campaign to give toys to underprivileged youngsters in our community. Through the Days of Giving campaign, Cox customers brought new, unwrapped toys for children at local Boys & Girls Clubs to 14 Cox Solutions Stores across the state.  In addition, Cox employees donated toys, clothing, and technology to children and families in need. Together, Cox customers and employees donated to more than 400 people across Virginia.

Sustainability of our environment is also an important pillar in developing strong communities and Cox Virginia awarded $15,000 to environmental non-profit organizations through the Cox Conserves Heroes program, in partnership with The Trust for Public Land to support this goal.
