CP Communications Takes The SilverCloud to The Transitions Championship

This past weekend, CP Communications was in Tampa Bay, FL, providing broadcast fiber optics production solutions for the PGA's Transitions Championship Golf Tournament (March 15-18, 2012). This time, however, they decided to take LandAirSea's SilverCloud real-time GPS tracking system along with them.

Common applications for the SilverCloud GPS tracking system, usually include fleet vehicle management, law enforcement surveillance and personal vehicle tracking. CP Communications, however, used the SilverCloud to track their broadcast team on-site and on-course in real-time.

Broadcast teams that provide media and television services for PGA tournaments have the enormous task of covering all 18 holes on a golf course simultaneously, which poses significant challenges, especially in the amount of terrain that's covered, when compared to NFL and NBA games. This means that prompt and efficient communication between on-site camera/audio crews and the command station is absolutely vital in order for the production to operate and run smoothly.  

CP Communications utilized the SilverCloud real-time GPS tracking system to accurately locate and monitor the RF microphones for the NBC/Golf Channel on-course Talent as well as their RF Camera systems that were dispersed throughout the Innisbrook Golf Resort. The units were viewed by their RF Audio and Video QC engineers in order to assign the proper antenna receiver to the proper transmitters.  

The 3-second continuous updates provided CP Communications the ability to track their audio and video team on the map in true real-time without having to constantly refresh or ping the device (update speed based on data plan). The intuitive and user-friendly SilverCloud online mapping software, powered by Google Maps, also allowed them to see precisely where each team was at all times without having to contact them individually.

The SilverCloud's real-time GPS location data, helps save fleet dispatchers, and in this case, production crew managers, valuable time and energy. Managers will be able to locate and route their teams to the proper place without having to figure out where they are first. This is an extremely important feature when it comes to live sporting events, like PGA golf tournaments, which are viewed by millions of people worldwide.
