Crain's Healthiest Employer Honors Go To Autocam
Healthy workplaces inspire awards for Michigan employers
KENTWOOD, Mich., Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Autocam Corp., a leading precision manufacturer for both the automotive and medical industries, was selected to Crain's Detroit Business' Honor Roll of 2012 Michigan's Healthiest Employers.
In partnership with MiBiz and Priority Health, Crain's Detroit Business has recognized companies throughout Michigan whose policies, programs, and culture inspire their employees to live healthful lifestyles in healthy workplaces.
"Autocam promotes workplace wellness in order to improve the health and well-being of our employees," said John Kennedy CEO and president of Autocam Corp. "We are dedicated to providing our employees with the tools to live happy and healthy lives, and our healthcare plan is designed to encourage each individual to take advantage of those tools and make good lifestyle choices."
Healthy living has been a key focus at Autocam since its founding in 1988. For more than 20 years, the company has offered fitness equipment and designated workout areas in each of its facilities. Autocam participates regularly in corporate sports challenges and running clubs, and pays employees' entrance fees at sporting events.
In addition to its healthy living programming, Autocam's healthcare plan is designed with a strong focus on preventive care. The plan covers 100 percent of the cost of preventive care for employees and their families, including regular physicals, health maintenance screenings, immunizations, and more. Autocam employees pay no premium for the plan if they take advantage of Autocam's healthy living credits, which consist of an annual physical, a wellness assessment, and sessions with a health coach if an assessment indicates a high-risk condition. Ninety-one percent of Autocam employees currently pay no premium.
Since the plan's induction, Autocam employees have experienced significantly reduced rates of high blood pressure, obesity, tobacco use, and other health factors. In several cases, Autocam employees also credit the plan with facilitating the diagnosis of diabetes, cancer, and other medical conditions.
Autocam's comprehensive healthcare plan is also designed to minimize the financial cost of healthcare to its employees. The company contributes $1,500 in matching funds to each employee's health savings account (HSA).
Autocam regularly communicates with its employees about its wellness programs through regular benefits meetings, written communications, the company blog, and plant meetings.
