ATLANTA, March 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 5 million Americans and 86,000 Scottish citizens are currently living with Alzheimer's disease. Due to the prevalence of this illness, Craneware, Inc., the healthcare market leader in automated revenue integrity solutions, today announced that it will support the Alzheimer's Association® and Alzheimer Scotland as part of its corporate responsibility program, Craneware Cares, in 2013.

Through the Craneware Cares program, employees in both the U.S. and U.K. will work to raise awareness of Alzheimer's and support prevention research by fundraising, and organizing volunteer participation in the communities surrounding each of Craneware's five office locations. Employees located at Craneware's global headquarters in the U.K. will join the fight against Alzheimer's in May 2013 by walking the West Highland Way, a 96 mile hike across many of Scotland's iconic mountains and glens. Despite height changes during the walk equivalent to an ascent of Everest, the team hopes to complete the journey in less than 30 hours. Craneware CEO Keith Neilson invited Craig Mathieson, a world-renowned Scottish explorer who led walking expeditions to the North and the South Poles, to speak to the U.K. team about his experiences, which proved extremely inspirational. In the United States, employees are participating in Walk to End Alzheimer's events, hosting auctions, trivia nights, bake sales and other charitable activities.
"Alzheimer's disease has an enormous impact on families and economies around the world and the numbers are growing," said Dean Hartley, director of science initiatives at the U.S. Alzheimer's Association. "We appreciate the efforts of Craneware and their employees to change the trajectory of this disease and support the Alzheimer's Association mission to advance research, provide care and support resources to families and advance brain health."
"Alzheimer Scotland is delighted to be working in partnership with Craneware in 2013. Their generous support of our vital work and services will benefit and brighten the lives of thousands of people throughout Scotland, helping us to ensure that no one goes through dementia on their own," Claire Turner, Corporate Fundraiser at Alzheimer Scotland.
"The Craneware Cares corporate social responsibility program is a reflection of our company values and our commitment to service," said Keith Neilson, Craneware CEO. "Advancements in technology and medicine have contributed to the decline of many major diseases in the past decade; however, the incidence of Alzheimer's disease is expected to triple by 2050. By supporting innovation and research, Craneware hopes to be a meaningful partner in the fight against Alzheimer's. It is a privilege to support the aims of these organizations as they work towards preventing and curing a disease that affects so many."
The Craneware Cares program is guided by Craneware's tradition of doing business responsibly, whether it is through advancing revenue integrity initiatives at healthcare organizations or donating time and resources to worthwhile causes. Through this program, in 2012 the company raised money and was able to send two teams of Craneware volunteers to the Villa la Paz Center for Destitute and Sick Children in Peru to provide medical care to this underserved community. Given the demonstrated success of the Villa la Paz initiative, Craneware hopes to gain continued support as it focuses its 2013 program on the growing Alzheimer's epidemic, which is the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S.
