Crave Real Burgers Sweeps Denver Burger Battle
DENVER, Aug. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Crave Real Burgers took the Denver culinary scene by storm when it opened in 2010 and has now solidified its reign at the top by sweeping the Denver Burger Battle. Crave earned both the People's Choice and Judges' Choice awards on Thursday. The double win is a first for the celebrated annual charity event.
"We're elated to win both trophies, especially for our employees," said Jeff Richard, Crave co-founder and co-owner. "They work so hard and genuinely care about contests like the Denver Burger Battle. This win is for them."
The winning burger, Love Stinks, is Crave's signature Colorado Proud chuck patty topped with roasted garlic cream cheese, more roasted garlic, fried onion strings, roasted red pepper, candied bacon and red pepper aioli. A Crave-branded mint was offered with each Love Stinks sample to combat the effect of the garlic.
Now in its fifth year, the sold-out Denver Burger Battle was attended by roughly 1,200 people, each of whom had a vote in the People's Choice category. Twelve of the best burger eateries in the Denver area were invited to compete. Four Denver celebrity chefs (Jeff Osaka, Paul Reilly, Justin Cucci and Theo Adley) formed the judges' panel.
"The people and the judges were definitely on the same page this year," said Jeremy Kossler, who co-founded the Denver Burger Battle with his wife, Kelly. Acorn, one of the twelve restaurants invited to compete at the event, was named the runner-up in both categories. "This may never happen again," said Kossler. "We're thrilled for Crave."
Proceeds from the Denver Burger Battle are distributed to hunger and child welfare charities. Crave won the Denver Burger Battle People's Choice award in 2012 and was the runner-up in 2013.
