Creative Video Productions Announce the Release of 'The Buddy Ebsen Story' DVD
The First-Ever Biography of Motion Picture & Television Actor Buddy Ebsen
TUSTIN, Calif., May 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- "Welll Doggies!!" Who made that a famous phrase? None other than Buddy Ebsen, who played Jed Clampett, America's favorite hillbilly, on one of television's biggest shows ever, "The Beverly Hillbillies." Buddy Ebsen became a household name as a result of that show but "The Beverly Hillbillies" was only a small part of this man's incredible 75-year entertainment career and now for the first time, fans can get his amazing life story in the newly released DVD, "The Buddy Ebsen Story," from Creative Video Productions.
Buddy's lifetime role came to a close after a 95-year run in 2003, a role most of his fans knew very little about. They knew him only as that loveable hillbilly, Jed Clampett, or Barnaby Jones, the detective who drank milk instead of booze, or Georgie Russell, Davy Crockett's sidekick in Disney's Crockett movies and the many movies and television shows he co-starred in. Max Baer, Jr. and Donna Douglas, Jethro and Elly May from "The Beverly Hillbillies," know who he was and they open their hearts about what made Buddy Ebsen the special person he was.
His public memorial service, held on August 30th, 2003, at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences facility in Burbank, California to an overflow crowd of fans and celebrities, included a 60-minute video presentation about his life and career titled "The Buddy Ebsen Story." Thanks to Steve Waltner, the producer, and Dorothy Ebsen, Buddy's widow, that presentation has now become the first-ever Buddy Ebsen biography, a tribute to Buddy and an opportunity for his many fans to truly get acquainted with the man they adored.
"The Buddy Ebsen Story" is a reflection of the incredible life he lived, including his childhood, a part he narrated himself as well as many unknown aspects of his personal life. He tells many fascinating stories about his entertainment career including how he got his first job dancing on Broadway, the Wizard of Oz story that nearly cost him his life and many more. Buddy was not only a charismatic actor, this multi-talented man wrote plays, wrote and recorded songs, became an accomplished oil painting artist, was a published author and a world-renowned sailor, winning races around the world.
Documentary producer Steve Waltner, owner of Creative Video Productions in Tustin, California, has produced documentaries for over 20 years, but "The Buddy Ebsen Story" was one he didn't see coming. Although "The Beverly Hillbillies" was one of his all-time favorite TV shows, he never dreamed he'd ever meet and become good friends with his favorite character from that show. However, a chance encounter in 1993 brought them together and when Buddy asked him to produce "The Buddy Ebsen Story," he couldn't believe his ears and was excited and extremely honored to do so. The down-home goodness and charisma of Buddy Ebsen made an indelible mark on his many fans and "The Buddy Ebsen Story" DVD portrays that wonderful character, a lasting tribute to a man whose legacy will live on for many years to come.
