Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation Honors Men and Women of Coast Guard on Coast Guard Day
WASHINGTON, Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) extends its thanks to the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard, in honor of U.S. Coast Guard Day on Sunday, August 4.
CICF is a long-time supporter of the Coast Guard Foundation and has provided in the last year alone more than $20,000 in grants to the Foundation. The Coast Guard Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of the men and women of the Coast Guard and their families, through programs such as scholarship funds for the dependents of enlisted Coast Guard personnel.
"CICF is a proud supporter of the Coast Guard Foundation and we are happy each year on Coast Guard Day to honor the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women, and their families, that serve this nation," said Mike McGarry, Executive Director of CICF.
Founded more than 40 years ago, the Coast Guard Foundation provides education, support and relief for the men and women who enforce maritime law, protect our homeland, and protect life and the environment.
The cruise industry collaborates with the Coast Guard, both domestically and internationally, to help provide for the safety of passengers and crew, to render assistance to those in peril at sea, and to promote environmental stewardship. The Coast Guard was founded under President George Washington in 1790.
