Crumley Roberts Partners with the Spokes Group to Provide Bike Helmets to Needy Families at Christmas

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Crumley Roberts, LLP, will be providing bicycle helmets this holiday season to more than 2,000 needy children in Charlotte and Raleigh in partnership with The Spokes Group.  The Spokes Group is a 15-year-old children's charity that provides bicycles to children of needy families for Christmas.  Crumley Roberts is a North Carolina-based law firm that provides legal counsel on personal injury, workers' compensation and Social Security disability claims.

The helmets are being provided through the Crumley Roberts Safety Zone, the company's community relations arm that focuses on safe cycling, child car seat safety and distracted driver education.  In the past four years, the company has given away more than 6,000 bicycle helmets to children throughout North Carolina.

"Our partnership with The Spokes Group fits perfectly with our efforts to teach kids how to ride a bike safely and provide them the proper tools to do that," said Chris Roberts, president of Crumley Roberts. "Everyone remembers their first bike.  We want to help make it both an exciting and safe experience."

Bicycles and helmets will be distributed by The Salvation Army's Christmas Bureau beginning Friday, Dec. 16.  Families eligible for holiday assistance who also indicated that they have a child who would like a bike for Christmas will be able to spin a large wheel for the chance to take home a bike.

The Spokes Group was founded in Charlotte in 1994 and gave away 17 bikes its first year.  The nonprofit organization has expanded in the past 15 years to add chapters in Raleigh, Charleston and Atlanta.  Since inception, the group has donated 23,373 bikes.  The Spokes Group is 100 percent volunteer operated.  All donations to The Spokes Group go toward the purchase of bikes and helmets.  The nonprofit has earned the BBB Accredited Charity designation.
