The Cuba City collection will be unveiled at the Lacuna Artist Lofts in Chicago on Thursday, November 19, 2015.
Cuba City is a poignant and timeless exhibition of photographs featuring the colors, culture & textures of Havana, Cuba. In five days of exploration, photographer Henri shares with us a collection of portraits and abstracts that elicit an emotionally filled narrative of grit, pride and resilience. Primarily using natural-light to produce these film-stills, Henri not only captures and references the Afro-Cuban experience but also lends a glimpse into the perspectives inspired by his own up bringing in Chicago, Illinois.
Henri, [pronounced on-ree] has received countless accolades including the Top 40 under 40 Chicago Game Changers Award and the Award of Distinction in the Naples National Art Festival. Henri has been hailed as the Gordon Parks of his generation, for his talent of capturing the raw narrative of his subjects.
Much of the inspiration for Henri's work comes from the Harlem Renaissance and artistic greats such as Gordon Parks, Normal Rockwell, James VanDerZee, and Anne Leibovitz. Henri's work elicits an undeniable emotional response by gracefully capturing the personal narrative of the subject, leaving the viewer with a feeling of effortlessness and transparent honesty.
Henri grew up on the south side of Chicago and has allowed local influences to heavily inspire his work. In previous collections, Henri has been able to capture the rich sense of culture and community flourishing in the city. Clifton Henri (American, b. 1979) is an award-winning photographer & visual artist from Chicago, IL. Henri received his B.A. in Mass Communication from Clarke University and a M.F.A in Graphic Design from The Savannah College of Art and Design. Henri's work has been added to many public and private collections. He spends much of his time traveling globally, studying the narratives of people worldwide.
