Cultural Glasses Offer a New Outlook
Cross cultural video wins 12,000 Euros in competition
LONDON, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nicolas Ivan Bori, an Argentinian living and working in Ireland, has won a competition in which entrants were challenged to create a short video on the subject of global working. His video, Cultural Glasses, was a fun look at cross cultural differences, and called on colleagues in Argentina, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Russia, Turkey and the USA.
"We see the world through the "glasses" created by our own culture. This constitutes a limit to understanding other points of view and generates misunderstandings," wrote Nicolas for his entry. "It is important to learn to properly interpret situations that might seem strange to us at first just because they are derived from a cultural context foreign to us."
His entry beat off stiff competition from a total of 40 entries in the video competition, which was held by Global Integration, a company which specializes in matrix management, virtual teams and global working.
"We offer training in global working and cross cultural success," said Global Integration's CEO Kevan Hall, who was also one of the judges, "so the video struck a chord with us as well as with the other judges. We were amazed by the quality, and often the humour, of the entries we had."
The judges, alongside Kevan Hall, were industrial and organizational psychologist Professor Jae H. Park from Korea; learning and development manager at Cognizant Technology Solutions, Dr. Vinay Raj Menon who is based in the US; second year management student, Alan Hall; and Head of Global Integration Asia, TH Ong.
The top ten shortlist, and the top twenty as voted for by the public, can be viewed on, and shared from, the Global Working video competition pages.
