Culver's Redevelopment Agreement Approved by Berwyn City Council
BERWYN, Ill, May 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At the May 11, 2010 City Council meeting, the Berwyn City Council unanimously approved a redevelopment agreement with the franchisee of Culver's to bring a new restaurant to the City's Roosevelt Road corridor. Culver's currently has 400 locations nationwide and the Berwyn location on Roosevelt Road will be the closest location to downtown Chicago. Resident Alderman Nora Laureto stated enthusiastically that, "I'm so proud that Berwyn was able to land a restaurant that not only sells great food but also one that shares the hometown values that Berwyn is known for. I look forward to years of Culver's being a true community partner."
Culver's is a privately owned and operated quick casual restaurant chain that operates primarily in the Midwestern United States. The first Culver's opened in 1984 in Sauk City, Wisconsin. Since then, it has expanded across the country stretching from Kentucky and Ohio to Wyoming, and from Texas and Arizona to North Dakota. Culver's has an expansive menu that features Culver's trademark ButterBurgers and frozen custard.
The renaissance of Roosevelt Road continues and is already anchored by the original location of Buona Beef, Turano Bakery, Fitzgerald's, and Wishbone. The addition of Culvers to this great mix of retailers continues to make Berwyn and the Roosevelt Road corridor a destination for entertainment and dining. Anthony Griffin, the Executive Director of the Berwyn Development Corporation, commented, "There were many pieces including the new $10 million public investment to overhaul the streetscape of the Roosevelt Road corridor and needed land assemblage for Culver's but the public private partnership forged by this deal makes it a great addition to Berwyn."
Construction of a new restaurant is expected to commence in the Winter of 2010 and be completed in coordination with the comprehensive streetscape improvement by the Summer of 2011. Guy Hollis, the franchisee, stated, "Locating in Berwyn just made sense. The demographics fit the Culver's model perfectly and the City was there at every step of the way to troubleshoot problems that arose. This store will truly be the product of a successful public-private partnership."
Mayor Robert J. Lovero stated, "The City knew that Culver's had been looking at locating in the area but the problem was always finding enough land to fit Culver's requirements. Once we found the land we knew that it was time to simply get the deal done."
