Two of the largest independently owned custom content, TMG Custom Media and Pace each took home six Gold Awards. TMG took home 21 awards all together, the most by any company. They were followed by Rodale Grow (13), Pace (11), American Express Publishing Custom Media (10) and Rogers Media (9).
American Express Publishing, Custom Media was honored with the evening's only Perfect Score Award with the Autograph Collection Hotels Magazine. It was fitting that the Perfect Score for this new publication was awarded to them in the Best New Magazine Category.
Golf Digest Properties won the top prize of the night, the Best in Custom Award for the 2012 Masters Journal. The Best In Custom Award was determined by compiling all of this year's Gold Winners, which was reviewed by a separate judging panel.
All submissions faced a great deal of competition this year, both foreign and domestic. There was a record number of international entries this year, many of whom were first time winners. Of the international winners, HOFFMAN UND CAMPE led the list with 7 awards including the Gold Award in the Best International Publication category.
Jane Ottenberg Presented the John Caldwell Lifetime Achievement Award
Jane Ottenberg, founder of TMG Custom Media, was graced with the John Caldwell Lifetime Achievement Award for her over 30 years in the custom content industry. Jane founded TMG Custom Media with her partner Richard Creighton in 1981 with one client and one magazine, long before "custom content" became a popular term. Today TMG employs more than 100 people and serves more than 50 clients in its Washington, D.C. and New York City offices.
"I never realized how much my Mother accomplished professionally, because growing up her focus was always on her children. She never missed any of her four children's events," said Kate Ottenberg, the youngest daughter who presented the award. Kate Ottenberg is Director, Video Services and Media Relations at TMG.
TMG is recognized by its clients and competitors as one of the country's top custom content agencies because of its outstanding quality, strongly measured results in digital, print and social media, and unusually long-term relationships. Ottenberg's passion for quality has contributed to TMG winning more than 750 awards, including 110 Pearls. Additionally, she served on the board of the Custom Content Council for five years and TMG was one of the founding companies that joined when the organization was formed.
Gold, silver and bronze awards were presented by Raphael Miranda, New York Meteorologist and Columbia Journalism Review Cyndi Stivers in the areas of design, editorial, digital and strategy. This year marked a growing trend for Digital entries, with several publications submitting for new categories like Best Tablet Content. Over 30 judges assembled in New York, Washington D.C. and San Francisco to judge all 628 entries.
