CVSA's 2010 Roadcheck Results Show Strong Rate of Compliance

ARLINGTON, Va., July 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Results from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's (CVSA) Roadcheck 2010 show that the commercial motor vehicle industry is hovering close to the record low out-of-service rates set during 2009.

Figures show the overall vehicle compliance rate at 80 percent, slightly down from 80.4 percent in 2009, with an overall driver compliance rate of 95.6 percent, which is unchanged from last year.

"This year's Roadcheck results provide further evidence of the trucking industry's steadfast commitment to safety," said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves.  

CVSA's annual Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program for commercial vehicles in the world. During the 72-hour period from June 8-10, CVSA and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration certified inspectors performed 65,327 truck and bus inspections. Of that total, there were 48,970 NAS Level I inspections, the most comprehensive roadside inspection.

According to CVSA, hazardous materials inspections resulted in a vehicle compliance rate of 83.7 percent, up from 83 percent in 2009 and a driver compliance rate of 97.5 percent, up from 97 percent in 2009.

ATA has supported CVSA's Roadcheck program since its inception and has worked cooperatively with CVSA to determine emphasis areas.  Additionally, while overall inspection totals are down from the previous year's records, more inspectors participated at more locations in this year's event.
