Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center national fundraising event has raised more than $16.7 million since 2007
NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- More than $7.7 million was raised this year by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's (MSK) Cycle for Survival event. Within six months, every dollar raised will be allocated to research projects led by MSK, so that patients with rare cancers, such as pancreatic, ovarian, brain and pediatric cancers, can see the benefits of donations in the form of new clinical trials and investigational treatment options.

"With the dollars raised by Cycle for Survival from 2007 through 2011, we have initiated 25 clinical trials and research studies on rare cancers that might not have otherwise received funding," said Dr. Gary Schwartz, chief of the Melanoma and Sarcoma Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. "We are incredibly grateful for this year's record-breaking donation and are looking forward to quickly activating new studies and trials to develop new therapeutic approaches to benefit patients worldwide."
Hosted by the event's Founding Sponsor, Equinox, the 2012 Cycle for Survival events took place in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Long Island, and Washington DC. The event attracted more than 10,000 participants, including Seth Meyers, Maria Bello, Kristin Chenoweth, Mark Herzlich (New York Giants), Ethan Zohn & Jenna Morasca, Robbie Gould (Chicago Bears) and Cobi Jones (LA Galaxy). The event also inspired 47 satellite events around the world, from Livingston, New Jersey to Hong Kong.
An indoor, team cycling event, Cycle for Survival was founded in 2007 by MSK patient, Jennifer Goodman Linn, to fund essential research into rare cancers. Half of all people with cancer suffer from a rare form of the disease, but research into rare cancers is often underfunded, leaving patients with limited treatment options. Cycle for Survival has raised more than $16.7 million since 2007 for rare cancer research led by MSK. Cycle 2012 was the first event since Jennifer Goodman Linn's passing.
"We at Equinox are honored to partner with Memorial Sloan-Kettering in this vital effort to cure rare cancers" said Scott Rosen, Chief Operating Officer for Equinox Fitness Clubs. "To all who have poured their energy and passion into every ride, we thank you. We honor Jennifer Goodman Linn and together carry on her quest to find a cure."
