NEW YORK, March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Daily News, the largest and most widely read newspaper in the New York Metropolitan area, with the seventh-largest news website in the United States, has partnered with MyCityWay, a mobile information and technology company that produces personalized mobile interfaces and apps that guide people through their daily habits in the city, to launch the Daily News Mobile App.

The app features Daily News editorial content plus MyCityWay's comprehensive signature city guide information, providing readers with a personalized, real-time, interactive experience for local information that matters most to them.

This marks the first time MyCityWay's intelligent local platform, which has been incorporated in BMW DriveNow vehicles and at large scale events like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, will be integrated into a U.S. media property. It is also the first time that a U.S. newspaper has partnered with a mobile tech company to offer a comprehensive local experience on mobile.

"The Daily News has just won the Editor & Publisher award for Best Mobile Website and now we are enhancing our mobile growth with an app that not only delivers our great content, but adds huge value to New Yorkers and to visitors with real-time location-based services and information," said Daily News President & CEO Bill Holiber. "This also opens up new significant opportunities for advertisers who can help influence people at key decision points. The ability to customize content and access tens of thousands of stores, venues and services takes the app to a new level of personalization and relevance for consumers. Now users can quickly find anything from the nearest WiFi hotspots to a specialty food store," added Holiber.

"Information consumption is moving from a platform-centric model to a user-centric model. Forward-looking media companies like the Daily News are focused on becoming an active part of their readers' daily habits (beyond news) on the always-on mobile devices," said Puneet Mehta, co-founder and CEO of MyCityWay. "By creating a highly personalized experience using the MyCityWay platform, the Daily News can keep its users connected to what matters most to them, at the right place and the right time. Ultimately, this builds real value for local advertisers and connects them with the right audience to help boost their businesses. We are looking forward to our enterprise platform being used for creating many such engaging experiences for partners around the world."

The extensive Daily News Mobile App can be downloaded free of charge via the Daily News website and is available for iOS and Android. It includes rich editorial content -- national and local news coverage plus sports, entertainment and photo galleries.

There is a QR code reader built into the app that encourages users to interact with advertisers as well as with editorial news content, video and photo galleries directly from the print newspaper.

The app allows advertisers to geo target their advertising on the app. MyCityWay provides another layer of information based on its successful city guide apps as well as a comprehensive local experience, including pertinent traffic, transit, weather, restaurants, events and much more real-time information.

The Daily News Mobile App offers advertisers and sponsors new opportunities to connect with millions of its users. It builds on the already significant mobile revenue and provides hyper-targeted advertising for local businesses and major brands based on a combination of their readers' interests and situational factors such as location, intent and learned behaviors, among other factors.

"The app gives our audience an extensive and up-to-date resource of highly useful information and allows advertisers the ability to engage customers at new levels of geographical and category targeting," said Steve Lynas, SVP of Digital at the Daily News. "We have found strong engagement with our audience and now we are offering them more valuable New York information in a compelling format. It is something that can help readers make decisions on a day-to-day basis and dynamically connect with advertisers and special offers," added Lynas.
