Dan Cote Named Managing Director At Alexander & Schmidt

YARMOUTH, Maine, July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dan Cote, a nationally recognized insurance expert in the safety and health field, has been named Managing Director at Alexander & Schmidt, a leading insurance loss control services company. Formerly serving as Senior Consultant with the firm, Cote now oversees risk improvement operations and provides senior consultative leadership to the Yarmouth, Maine-based company's clients.

Previously, Cote served as Senior Vice President, Safety Consulting, at Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC). At MEMIC, he designed and coordinated the development of safety consulting strategy for MEMIC customers. Cote led the process to achieve substantive culture change within each industry base served in order to reduce injury claims by over 35%. He also served as President of MEMIC Safety Services, providing consulting services to other insurers.

During nearly a decade of service at USF&G Insurance Co., Cote served in several leadership roles: Loss Control Regional Manager, Branch Loss Control Manager, and Safety Consultant. He was later named Regional Manager, based in Baltimore, Maryland.

Cote earned his MBA from Southern New Hampshire University and an MS in Occupational Safety from Illinois State University. He is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and has earned numerous, advanced certifications and credentials including the Wharton Executive Development Program, University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business, Corporate Strategy Program, and the Six Sigma & Operational Excellence certificate from the Insurance Performance Association.

Cote has served as Adjunct Professor, Risk Management, at the University of Southern Maine, and at Keene State College, New Hampshire. He also has served on the Executive Advisory Board for the School of Applied Science & Technology, University of Southern Maine. He is the author of numerous industry publications and has been invited to speak at national and regional conferences on workplace safety and health.
