SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today marks the grand opening of the newly renovated sheet metal training center in Sacramento. This training center is responsible for educating Union craftsmen in the sheet metal industry across 23 northern California counties. As job opportunities in the building trades increase, so does the need for state-of-the-art training.
Director of Training, Robert Verdugo had this to say, "This new facility is not only a great opportunity for men and women interested in a career in the sheet metal industry, but it offers significant benefits to the employers who hire these professionals as well."
Those benefits include a highly skilled, professionally trained work force that will continue to grow as the Sacramento skyline continues to grow. Union sheet metal workers are responsible for fabricating and installing duct work in some of our areas most significant buildings, such as the Golden One Center, the Women and Children's Hospital, area schools, theaters, court houses and so much more. Industry professionals also service the heating and air conditioning systems for those same buildings. The training center, now housed at Mather Field, is where these men and women learn how to design and install these often complex systems, which include green energy strategies and stringent requirements for clean air within healthcare facilities.
May 31st marks the first official day of business for the Sheet Metal Training Center of Sacramento. The Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (those responsible for the operation of the center), purchased the building for $1.2 Million and have invested an additional $3.1 Million in improvements. Those improvements include state-of-the-art classrooms, welding equipment, computers and other tools utilized in teaching.
More than 100 men and women will benefit on an annual basis from the free, college level training available at the center. Students and employers from all over Northern California will be served through this site, as it is the hub for all sheet metal and HVAC training from Stockton to the Oregon Border and from Winters to the Nevada Border.
