Dart Health Coaching & Consulting Helps Individuals and Medical Professionals Manage Daily Diabetes Challenges
AUBURN, N.Y., April 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Health consultant and coach Michelle A. Dart (http://www.darthealthcc.com) is using her expertise as a pediatric nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator to provide guidance for people of all ages with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and their families as well as nurses involved with treating diabetes. Through her registered nurse service, Dart Health Coaching & Consulting, Dart offers health coaching, diabetes education and motivational interviewing, a method of communication that promotes healthful behavior change.
Dart has worked with diabetes patients and their caregivers for 11 years and has been the facilitator of a local diabetes support group for the past seven years. She offers coaching and consulting primarily for children, adolescents or young adults and their parents in the areas of diabetes and obesity. She also creates diabetes camp curriculums and school programs, both educational and for fundraising events. "Healthcare providers can't be there for the day-to-day challenges of diabetes," she said. "A coach helps you explore ways to handle those issues. I teach according to developmental stage, which is important when promoting healthy behaviors throughout childhood, adolescence and young adulthood."
In addition to coaching, Dart's consulting business offers motivational interviewing training for nurses. "Motivational Interviewing is a method of promoting behavior change through coaching using therapeutic communication," she said. "It helps patients take responsibility for their health behaviors and make informed decisions. Motivational interviewing is the method I use for all my coaching programs, and it can be utilized in all areas of nursing practice." To supplement her training, Dart wrote Motivational Interviewing in Nursing Practice: Empowering the Patient, (Jones & Bartlett Publishers, February 2010), available at Amazon.com and the Jones & Bartlett Learning website (http://www.jblearning.com/catalog/9780763773854), to teach nurses the skills necessary to impart healthy decision making to their patients.
Dart also established a publishing company, Ringo Publishing Inc. (http://www.ringopub.com), to help people better manage their health care. Her self-published book, Danny, the Diabetes Dynamo, is the first in a series of self-management manuals for children recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Her newest book, Diabetes Your Way (http://www.Diabetes-Your-Way.com), is scheduled for publication later in 2012. With it, Dart intends to open new doors in diabetes self-management through motivational interviewing by helping people gain perspective and make choices that will lead to healthier and happier lives.
Dart offers individual coaching by phone, email or text message. In-person coaching is available depending on the client's location and individual needs. Dart also provides group training for educational institutions and healthcare facilities.
