NEW YORK, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- DataRockit has announced startup My City Way as the grand prize winner of its nation-wide developer contest. My City Way developed an application called NYC Way to revolutionize the way people discover new ways to explore and interact with the city. As contest winner, My City Way will partner with DataRockit to fully integrate features related to criminal, real estate and local sex offender data.
DataRockit launched its developer contest at the height of the online privacy debate, when Facebook opened user information for its own personal gain. DataRockit decided to open up all of its 3.1 BILLION data records instead to encourage developers to use this data for community protection, rather than to exploit them.
"Protecting the communities we live in is the core of DataRockit's mission," says Roy Johnson, CEO of DataRockit. "In launching this contest, we wanted to encourage developers to think creatively about all the possible ways that they too can help look after the privacy of the public."
Of all the applicants that rose to the challenge, NYC Way stood out as the most progressive, creative proposal of a platform that would truly employ this data for good. As the contest winner, My City Way will receive one year of data for FREE.
"The NYC Way app was designed to ensure that people are provided with a user-friendly platform to safely live, work, play and navigate the city," says Archana Patchirajan, Co-Founder of My City Way. "Being selected as winner of DataRockit's contest will give us the opportunity to enhance our application's Safety module, which would be useful to NYC Way users"
