"We have a choice in how we do business in the world, and we have chosen to be a force for good," says Brandon Day, co-owner and Chief Executive Officer. "We know that business is about more than just providing services and making money, it's about making a difference. We think it is important to support the quality of life of our employees and our community, to give back to our community and to be a good community partner, and to invest in people. We believe that we all have a responsibility and a desire to contribute to something bigger than ourselves. It keeps us focused on the big picture and things that matter. It is the right thing to do."
Daycos4Good focuses on four stakeholders: the company, the customers, the employees and the community. "These stakeholders are interdependent and share equal importance in the system – the better we do at creating and sustaining great services and relationships with our customers, the more revenue that is generated to be invested in our employees and our community," continues Day. "Better business equals more investments in people. More investments in people and community results in better business."
The company has formalized goals to make charitable investments in the community and in its employees, growing these from a current investment level of about 2% to 10% of revenue over the next ten years. These contributions will impact people, programs and services in the northeast Nebraska area and beyond.
"Our primary hope is that we will make a difference in the lives of our employees, their families and our community through Daycos4Good," Day said. "We also hope that there are other businesses who are inspired by our efforts and begin to consider how they too can be a force for good."
The Daycos4Good community investments are entirely employee-driven. Daycos employees vet and select opportunities based upon need and merit, via a formal committee that meets on a regular basis. "I am most excited about that," said Tammy Day, co-owner. "We believe a candle loses none of its own light by lighting another candle. It's not the owners or management that decide where these investments are made. Our employees are empowered to select how we can improve the community where we live and work. They are the ones that directly spread that light."
Daycos will provide updates to the Daycos4Good program via the company's website (www.daycos.com), Twitter (@daycos, #D4G) and Facebook page.
