Delaware North Brings Award-Winning Sights, Sounds and Tastes to Airports Worldwide
Travel hospitality management company uses Gateway Concept(SM) to fill terminals with local color
BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services has long subscribed to the notion that the cure for terminal boredom is right outside airports' doors. The nearly 70-year-old airport concessions management company is the pioneer of the Gateway Concept(SM), which seeks to transform airports into harbingers of the sights, sounds and tastes of the cities they call home.
This ingenuity is part of what has made Delaware North an industry-leading travel hospitality management company that garners awards and admiration from competitors and experts alike. In fact, Forbes.com recently lauded several of the company's concepts for offering "the best menu options" at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Texas' Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
The Delaware North-operated airport concessions named at LAX include the Encounter Restaurant & Bar in the airport's Theme Building, which was selected for its "funky modern" atmosphere and "California fresh" cuisine. In addition, Pink's Hot Dogs, opened by Delaware North in July 2010, and the travel hospitality management company's Wolfgang Puck concept, were also among the website's top options for fresh, delicious airport fare.
At Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the Forbes.com reviewer selected Delaware North's The Salt Lick as one of the country's finest airport concessions. This classic Texas barbecue restaurant features sliced brisket, pulled pork and chopped beef sandwiches that offer travelers convenience and local flavor just steps from their gates.
In other airport concessions management moves, the company has again extended its legendary Gateway Concept by opening Anchor Bar, so travelers can experience the original chicken wing immediately upon arriving in Buffalo, N.Y.; Earl Campbell's Sports Bar in Houston; Toostie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville; Pasha's in Fort Lauderdale; and Hockeytown Cafe in Detroit.
In addition, Delaware North sponsors live music at the airports in iconic music cities Austin, Nashville and New Orleans.
"The Gateway Concept allows travelers to experience a city's culture from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave," said Matt King, president of Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services. "It's a service we're particularly proud of – and one Delaware North will continue to enhance as we further develop the Gateway Concept we created 15 years ago."
