Demibooks® Composer, First iPad-Based Platform for Creating Interactive Books, Now Available in the App Store
CHICAGO, Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Demibooks, Inc. (www.demibooks.com), a Chicago-based digital publishing technologies company, announces the launch of Demibooks® Composer in the App store. Composer is the first iPad-based software platform for creating children's interactive book apps with realistic physics, animation, sounds and visual effects. Demibooks had previewed Composer at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco last week.
Composer is affordable, versatile and incredibly easy to use. The creative process is entirely code-free and takes place right on the tablet device itself extending the interactive nature of the book app into the creative process.
Private beta testers for Composer included a diverse list of publishers, media studios, individual authors and illustrators. Kira Lynn, Publisher of Kane Miller Books, a division of EDC Publishing says, "Composer's rich feature- set allowed us to focus entirely on the creative development process and seamlessly integrate many unique interactive features into the book quickly and easily without having to write a single line of code." Another beta tester, John Mark Green, author and illustrator of Steampunk Chess Puzzles, a forthcoming book app says, "Composer leverages the unique qualities of the iPad, while giving authors powerful tools to create amazing reading experiences. One of the simplest, most elegant tools for rapid prototyping and graphic design on any platform, not just the iPad."
The Composer platform leverages the iPad's touch interface, sound recording ability and camera with an advanced set of special effects. Authors can easily animate objects, activate functions based on touch-gestures and assign real-life properties to objects, such as gravity or stickiness, to make them float, collide or bounce. Other features allow authors to layer in audio and other special effects within the story's plot to create a truly interactive reading experience.
Demibooks CEO Rafiq Ahmed adds, "Digital storytelling is evolving in incredible new ways. We created the Composer platform to let anyone compose their own interactive books. Publishers keep creative control while dramatically reducing development costs. Self-published authors and illustrators finally enter the market with business models that work. We will continue building on our platform and look forward to sharing more developments in the near future."
Composer is available for free download from the App store at http://bit.ly/getcomposer for a limited introductory period. The Demibooks® PrintShop service will provide authors the ability to publish their book apps to the App Store starting at $499. Video demonstrations of Composer are available for viewing at http://www.youtube.com/user/demibooks#g/u.
