The fusion of Diablo's Memory Channel Storage™ (MCS™) architecture with SMART Storage Systems' Guardian Technology Platform creates a new ULL flash-SSD tier for enterprise servers and storage systems. The first exclusive product based on this combination of advanced technologies is the SMART Storage Systems' ULLtraDIMM™.  This new ULL SSD based on the MCS architecture provides DRAM-like performance characteristics by placing NAND flash directly onto the memory channel of the processors, creating a highly parallel, ultra-low latency storage and memory solution. The MCS architecture delivers linear scaling of performance as additional modules are added to servers while keeping application latency lower than other NAND based storage solutions.

"The judges of the Flash Memory Summit Awards Committee are always looking for the next killer app of flash memory and Diablo Technologies and SMART Storage Systems have hit a homerun with their combined solution," said Jay Kramer, Chairman of the Awards Program and President of Network Storage Advisors Inc. "Customers want to achieve the dream of low latency performance for mixed workloads and this solution enables applications to access flash on the memory channel as a traditional block device for storage and caching, as well as for extending system memory to the host processors of a server or storage array."

The Most Innovative Flash Memory Enterprise Business Application award recognizes how a product or service is being used to solve a specific business problem in new and exciting ways. Examples include commercial applications that apply to all business environments or vertical market applications addressing specific market segments. Application solutions can address a wide range of business requirements for the traditional data center, desktop and server virtualization environments, public / private / hybrid cloud computing and other IT environments.

Diablo's Memory Channel Storage is an innovative solution leveraging performance of the memory channel to accelerate applications and enable flash as a disruptive system alternative to DRAM and PCIe-SSDs. Its disruptive latency and throughput accelerates existing applications and gives rise to new use cases for flash in the enterprise. MCS-enabled products provide a modular high-performance form factor allowing flash deployment in all dense servers and blades while creating a new class of ultra-low latency (ULL) SSDs and system accelerators for enterprise servers. Diablo's MCS delivers dramatic improvements in speed, density, scalability and operating costs over flash-based designs using PCIe or SAS/SATA-based SSDs.

"We are pleased that our collaboration with SMART Storage has been recognized by the judges of the Flash Memory Summit's Best of Show Awards as the most innovative application for enterprises," said Riccardo Badalone, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Diablo Technologies. "MCS has been designed to deliver the highest, most-economical scaling of any enterprise storage solution on the market today.  It is an ideal solution for enterprises that require high performance and ultra-low latency such as those in the database, cloud, big data, high frequency trading and virtualization marketplaces."

The Flash Memory Summit is the only conference dedicated entirely to flash memory and its applications. The Summit features half-day tutorials, workshops, paper and panel sessions, keynotes, roundtables, special sessions, and exhibits. Subjects include hardware, software, design methods, consumer applications, embedded applications, computer and communications applications, alternative technologies, programming methods, testing, standards, and market research.  Additional information about the event is available at http://www.flashmemorysummit.com.
