Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach Awards Grand Prizes Totaling $10,000 To Seven Global Artists

ALYS BEACH, Fla., June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach — the world's first art projection festival located on Scenic Highway 30A in Northwest Florida's South Walton county — announces the seven grand prize winners of its 2014 art competition.

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday, June 7 during a welcome party hosted by Emerald Coast magazine. In addition to earning the coveted title as a DG2014 grand prize winner, thanks to support from The Alys Foundation, Visit South Walton, 30A.com and Emerald Coast magazine, a total of $10,000 in cash prizes was awarded to the winners to further advance their pursuit of digital art.

This year 29 artists representing 24 cities in 12 countries on four different continents competed during Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach. A panel of judges chose the winners after reviewing submissions from countries all around the globe including Italy, Sweden, Australia, Ireland, Bangladesh, Qatar, South Africa, Germany, Portugal, Spain, India, and the USA.

Winners hail from five different countries located as near to Alys Beach as Fernandina Beach, Fla., and as far as Kolkata, India. For the first time in the festival competition, there was a tie for Best of Show. And this year there was one repeat winner; returning finalist David Montgomery of Fernandina Beach, Florida, received an award in 2012.

Montgomery and Best of Show winner Amber Bushnell, workshopped their pieces while participating in the Digital Graffiti Artist in Residency program at Alys Beach last January.

"It was really nice to interact with the other digital artists and 'talk shop.' I also had a lot of time to play with ideas for mapping a site-specific piece. I actually was able to explore some new ideas/concepts with my mapping artwork which I introduced during DG2014," Amber Bushnell explained.

This one-of-a-kind juried festival allows digital artists to explore how their fluid forms intersect with technology and wrap the architecture of Alys Beach to create entirely new art forms. Guests who attend Digital Graffiti are able to view and at time, participate in, these installments experiencing some of the latest trends in digital art and technology.
