The Spatial Cam portfolio, which recently added a sixth USPTO patent enabling advanced tracking functionality, represents "a significant advance over existing panoramic imaging solutions, which tend to be expensive, complex and generally not user friendly for smartphones," said Chief Technology Officer and founder Peter Lablans.
"Spatial Cam's patented technology enables cameras to record and immediately display panoramic video images in real-time," Lablans explained, "thus eliminating the undesirable need for processing images on a separate PC, which delays the immediate enjoyment of panoramic images on the camera or smartphone."
Unlike some 360-degree technology, which either generates distorted video images, or requires off-loading to a PC or server before viewing, Spatial Cam technology simply requires an inexpensive, second built-in camera and minimal operating software.
Spatial Cam is offering leading U.S. and global smartphone, tablet, and other camera manufacturers, automotive companies and social media companies a unique opportunity to acquire and employ its technology to create leading-edge product differentiators. Among the digital imaging devices that can be enhanced with Spatial Cam technology are smartphones, stand-alone cameras, wearable cameras, security cameras and automotive cameras.
"Real-time panoramic video images from multiple cameras require a level of processing power generally not affordable or available on a smart phone," Lablans explained. "The Spatial Cam patents enable real-time creation and display of panoramic video images on a smartphone or tablet without substantial additional processor power." He added, "There is increasing consumer demand for panoramic images that provide a more natural, realistic view of the world. Licenses to our technology will provide manufacturers with a basis for valuable global-market differentiation."
"Currently, panoramic video images in security and recreational applications, among others, are normally generated by a camera with a fish-eye lens," Lablans pointed out. "This provides a wide, but distorted image that is not appealing to consumers who share images on social media."
