The series is split into two divisions, one for 3 year-old male horses and one for 3 year-old female horses. The series for males consists of the Secretariat Derby, Citation Stakes, and the Seattle Slew Derby. The female division consists of the Bouquet Stakes, Pink Diamond Stakes, and the Red Rose Oaks. The series was created to determine each season's best horse for each distance in the series.
