The program brings together students for an intensive summer immersion program designed to help Fellows explore the professional, civic and social offerings of the Flint area. This hands-on program is designed to mentor and cultivate today's young leaders, strengthen their understanding of societal issues and prepare them for future public service opportunities.
The 12-week Fellowship brings participants to Flint, where they learn from community leaders, participate in service-learning projects and implement social impact projects. The innovative program provides fellows with a truly immersive urban experience, including the provision of housing in vibrant, revitalized downtown Flint at the Riverfront Residence Hall to spur and inspire social innovation amongst participants.
This one-of-a-kind Fellowship in Michigan is designed for social innovators who have the talent, the passion and the potential to make a difference.
"Participating in the Diplomat Fellowship for Social Impact was such a great experience," said Hannah Jenuwine, a 2014 Diplomat Fellow. "I had the opportunity to research a social issue that I am passionate about, interview key community leaders, craft my own policy project and share those findings with people in the community. I loved being able to live and work with the other Fellows, building strong friendships and learning so much from them in the process."
The Fellowship is an extra-curricular program for which Fellows do not gain course credit. However, a Certificate of Achievement will be provided, as well as viable access to scholarship opportunities. Full application requirements and additional information is available here.
If you have any questions about the Diplomat Fellowship Program, please email [email protected]. Completed applications must be received by May 1, 2015.
