DisposeRx issues statement regarding EPA Final Rule for Disposing of Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals
Disposal of unused medications is the responsibility of all stakeholders
SANFORD, N.C., Aug. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- DisposeRx, the at-home medication disposal solution, released a statement today regarding the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) final rule for hazardous waste pharmaceuticals that recently went into effect. The EPA's final rule establishes standards for handling hazardous waste pharmaceuticals by healthcare facilities and distributors. To keep them from being flushed and entering sewer systems, going forward, these pharmaceuticals will need to be disposed of through proper channels.
According to the EPA, "…this final rule will make our drinking and surface water safer and healthier by reducing the amount of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals entering our waterways by 1,644 to 2,300 tons on an annual basis by prohibiting all facilities subject to the rule from sewering them."
