Diversity of Topics, Elite Speakers, and Trade Show Floor Highlights SAE International's 2010 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress

It wasn't just the covey of elite speakers.

And, it wasn't just the spectacular trade show floor.

It was all of these components that, together, made the SAE International 2010 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress one of the most memorable in the event's seven-year history. The congress was held Oct. 5-6 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill.

Oshkosh Corporation was the first defense-related company to assume a leadership role in the Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress. Verhoff served as co-chairs of the event.

The two-day event was designed to provide valuable, cutting-edge information to commercial vehicle engineering professionals, many of whom often work across multiple disciplines. The interactive panel discussions and technical sessions were created to meet the diverse needs of those professionals. Highlights from the event included:

• The National Research Council Report: Assessment of Fuel Economy Technologies for Medium and Heavy Duty Vehicles, was presented by Dr. Andrew Brown, Jr., P.E., FESD, NAE, executive director and chief technologist for Delphi Corp. and the 2010 president of SAE International.
• A global executive leadership panel of defense community senior executives discussed how engineering impacts the military and defense businesses. Verhoff moderated the panel of military and defense OEM leaders.
• A panel addressed military business needs and featured representatives of the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC); the National Automotive Center; TARDEC, Ground Transportation and Engineering Systems; Marine Corps Systems Command; USMC Program Executive Office, Joint MRAP Vehicle Program; and the National Guard Bureau.
• Other featured speakers during Congress included Bob Bohn, Chairman and CEO of Oshkosh Corporation; Doug Oberhelman, Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar; and Dee Kapur, President, Truck Group, Navistar.

The Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress also included a career fair that featured CNH Case New Holland, Infotech Enterprises America, John Deere, LHP Software, Navistar and Oshkosh Corporation.

The SAE 2011 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress and Exhibition will be held Sept. 13-14 in Rosemont, Ill.  Executive leadership for the 2011 event will be provided by Daimler Trucks in the form of Executive Co-Chairs Dr. Wilfried Achenbach, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology and Landon Grogan, Director of Engineering Services and Vehicle Integration, both of Daimler Trucks North America LLC.
