Django Coffee Co. is a new and exciting coffee roasting company based in Southport, Merseyside. They specialise in sourcing single origin, organic and ethically produced coffee beans, then hand-roast them in small batches to create their own unique flavours and aromas.
The owner of the company, Stephen Paweleck, has spent a considerable amount of time travelling the world and sampling each country's coffee and cultures and he wanted to be able to share his experiences of travel whilst also producing excellent coffee. Living in Melbourne for a couple of years "The Capital of Coffee", reinforced his philosophy.
Stephen explains that "Coffee has a greater variety of flavours than wine and each country's taste profiles differ from one another. I want to be able show people how complex and exciting coffee can be. The journey of the coffee bean from farm to cup is very interesting and the aim of Django Coffee Co. is to provide information about this journey as well as being socially and environmentally conscious of the processes involved."
"We at Django Coffee Co. aim to supply local cafes and restaurants with our coffee as well as providing an online delivery service across the UK. Coffee beans need a period of time after roasting to allow the gases that accumulate during the roasting process to be released. This usually takes 48 hours, so our aim at Django's is to deliver the coffee within this period so that when the coffee arrives it is perfectly fresh.
As for the name Django, Stephen explains that Django is the name of his cat, named after the Belgium born jazz guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt. Whilst being a very prominent name and aesthetically pleasing, Django actually means "I awake" in Romany, and for a company that excels in providing people with their caffeine fix the name and the business were the perfect match.
